When it comes to ASAE events, my dance card is pretty long. Thanks to our friends at YourMembership, I recently had the pleasure of attending one of all-time my favorites—‘The Power of A’ Summit Awards Dinner. This is not your average awards dinner complete with long speeches and over-cooked chicken. Instead, it is a sold-out venue full of incredible professionals who truly believe in the power of associations. The event showcases associations who have gone to great lengths to create positive change in both the industries they serve and the world at large. As if that is not incentive enough for attending, there is also a dessert bar.
ASAE launched ‘The Power of A’ campaign to showcase how associations and nonprofits help build a stronger nation and world. As someone who has spent a majority of her career in the industry, I understand and value the work associations do every day. Yet, this evening served as a great reminder of how associations work tirelessly to enrich lives, impact the future, and fuel the economy.
CHEST Improves Pulmonary Care in China
An incredible example of an association that is truly advancing the world is award-winner and longtime Brightfind client, the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST). CHEST was recognized for their China-CHEST Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. In China, medical training ends after a physician completes residency training. I admit, I have no clue how to properly evaluate a chest physician, but if I’m ever in the position where I have to, finding a surgeon with advanced, specialized training in lung health will be high on my priority list. Thanks to the work CHEST has done, people in China will soon be able demand the same. CHEST’s program is introducing pulmonary critical care medicine as a sub-specialty and providing fellows in China with the education and training needed to provide care to those impacted by respiratory and critical care illness.
The Public Library Association Fosters Literacy
Because I volunteer with children and have a little guy of my own, I felt a personal connection with the incredible work The Public Library Association is doing. Research told them that children were entering kindergarten without the early skills needed to learn to read. So they partnered with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to create Every Child Ready to Read. This innovative program goes beyond “story time” and leverages public libraries to help parents foster literacy skills in their children.
