Emily Witt, Brightfind’s VP of Professional Services, recently spoke about Redesign Pitfalls and Triumphs on a panel at Web Content Mavens, a MeetUp Group in Washington, DC. The session was part of a larger mini-conference called Website Revamp – Options, Plans, and Roadmaps.

Moderating the panel was Digital Strategist Avi Kaplan, and co-presenting were Josh Korr, Senior Project Manager at Viget and Scott John Anderson, Director of Web Communications at Georgetown University.

Whether you would like to keep the conversation going or simply missed it, never fear, this blog post highlights the main topics of discussion to keep you updated on the latest and greatest industry conversations.

Brightfind recently brought us to beautiful, sunny, San Diego to moderate a user experience study called a Card Sort for the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) at their annual conference. A card sort is an exercise that gathers user input on how a website’s navigation and information architecture should be organized. The results of a card sort tells us where your target audience expects to find certain things, what terminology makes sense to them, and what content might be unfamiliar. These results are used to create a user-driven information architecture, navigation structure, and sitemap.

Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) is the home of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) and our latest information architecture engagement.  Unlike our usual trips to this part of the Country, we didn’t have to worry about getting stuck in a snow drift this time, because it was summer. Brightfinders had a superb time at DC Inno’s DC Fest, networking, listening to the DCeivers, and imbibing tasty drinks and eats. The energy at DCFest was electric and contagious, and it was wonderful to be considered, then chosen, as one of the top ten coolest companies in DC, among the many innovative companies considered. We enjoyed showing off our competitive nature in our playing of games and in our boasting about our cool attributes with the DC Inno video team.

I live on an island.  Not a tropical island, but an island.  Because of that, I often get asked about my commute to the Brightfind office.  I won’t lie, it’s not fun, but the truth of the matter is, I am rarely in the office.  I spend most of my time traveling to client sites, their chapter meetings, regional conferences, and annual events in order to interact with end users.
